Board News: The ICAVL Welcomes Its Newest Members

ANDREI V. ALEXANDROV, MD, RVT

Andrei
V. Alexandrov, MD, RVT joins the ICAVL Board of Directors
as a representative of the American Society of Neuroimaging.
Currently, he is Director of the Stroke Research and Neurosonology
Program at Barrow Neurological Institute, located in Phoenix,
AZ.
In
1989, Dr. Alexandrov received his MD degree from the 1st
Moscow Medical Institute (Sechenov), and specialized in
clinical neurology at the Institute of Neurology, Russian
Academy of Medical Sciences, Moscow, Russia. Dr. Alexandrov
completed his postgraduate fellowship training in stroke
and cerebrovascular ultrasound at the ICAVL-accredited
Neurovascular Laboratory and Stroke Research Unit of the
University of Toronto. He continued with stroke research
as a Fellow of the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
In 1996, he joined the University of Texas Stroke Team
in Houston to assist stroke neurologists in the Emergency
Department to evaluate and treat hyper-acute patients
with ischemic stroke. While also serving as Associate
Professor at UT, Dr. Alexandrov created a teaching and
research center where such skills as how to perform and
interpret cerebrovascular ultrasound are taught to stroke
fellows, visiting clinicians and technologists from North
America and around the globe. He has presented his research
at numerous national and international conferences.

Additionally,
Dr. Alexandrov is a Director of the Neurosonology Examination
Committee of the American Society of Neuroimaging, the founding
Program Director of the National Stroke Symposium (an ongoing
CME program he has presented through IAME since 2004), and a
participant on several expert panels. Dr. Alexandrov serves
on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Neuroimaging,
Stroke, and is an Associate Editor of the International
Stroke Journal. His published work has appeared in such
peer-reviewed journals as the New England Journal of Medicine,
Neurology, Circulation, Stroke, Cerebrovascular
Diseases, and the Journal of Neuroimaging, and also
includes two textbooks on cerebrovascular ultrasound.
TERENCE N. NEEDHAM, RVT

Terence
N. Needham, RVT joins the ICAVL Board of Directors
as a representative of the Society of Diagnostic Medical
Sonography. Currently, Mr. Needham is the Director of
Heart and Vascular at Erlanger Health System, located
in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Mr.
Needham completed his education at Paddington Technical
College and Northeast London Polytechnic, both in London,
England. During this time he became certified as a State
Registered Medical Laboratory Scientist. In 1984, Mr.
Needham earned the credential of Registered Vascular Technologist
from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography
(ARDMS).

A
Fellow of the Society for Vascular Ultrasound (SVU), Mr. Needham
has participated in many other professional societies, including
the SVU and the ARDMS. He has remained an active member of numerous
SVU committees since 1983. Mr. Needham is the course director
for "Peripheral Vascular Ultrasound," a 4-day postgraduate
course at the Bowman Gray School of Medicine at Wake Forest
University. With years of editorial experience, Mr. Needham
has published in numerous books, journals and other publications,
including the Journal for Vascular Ultrasound, Journal
for Vascular Technology, and SPECTRUM.
