HAPPENINGS: The Latest From The ICAVL Staff

ICAVL DIVISION NEWS | Autumn 2008

The ICAVL Welcomes Marge Hutchisson, LPN, RVT, RCVT, RDCS As Technical Manager

On July 21, 2008, the ICAVL named Marge Hutchisson, LPN, RVT, RCVT, RDCS as Technical Manager. Upon joining the ICAVL in April,
Ms. Hutchisson initially served as Associate Technical Manager, a role assisting the Technical Manager in offering a level of clinical expertise to laboratories. The experience Ms. Hutchisson brings to the ICAVL includes over 25 years in the field of peripheral vascular ultrasound and 13 years in transthoracic echocardiography. Throughout her career, she has served in a managerial and technical director capacity in the establishment and management of cardiovascular laboratories. Ms. Hutchisson has worked in a full range of clinical settings, including hospitals, private practice, and industry.

Ms. Hutchisson began her studies at Lakewood School of Practical Nursing in Cleveland, Ohio, where she earned her license as an LPN. After attending Cleveland State University, she became board-certified by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography in both Vascular Technology and Adult Echocardiography. She is a member of the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography, the American Society of Echocardiography, and the Society of Vascular Ultrasound.

“I am honored to represent the ICAVL in this role,” Ms. Hutchisson remarked, when asked about her new position at the ICAVL. “Accreditation is designed to serve as an educational tool for laboratories to assess their daily operations and how it impacts the quality of health care provided to their patients. One of the most important aspects of my position with the ICAVL is to serve as a reliable resource to laboratory personnel in answering their questions pertaining to accreditation. Having worked in a variety of clinical settings and having gone through the application process, I also hope to provide advice and ideas to assist applicants in effectively meeting the standards and requirements necessary to achieve accreditation, while offering support and understanding based upon my own experiences.”

As Technical Manager, Ms. Hutchisson is now the main point of contact for labs preparing their applications for submission. Working closely with the trained teams of application reviewers and site visitors, she helps prepare their evaluations for review in conjunction with the quarterly accreditation decisions made by the Board of Directors. In addition, she will represent the ICAVL at various national meetings and lectures throughout the coming year.

Laboratories with clinical questions are encouraged to contact Ms. Hutchisson at 800-838-2110 or via email at hutchisson@intersocietal.org.
